We all know sleep is important, and it's especially true for toddlers. Are they getting enough sleep or maybe even sleeping too much? But there's more to getting a good night’s sleep than just sleeping for a certain amount of time.
Here are some useful tips and sleep aids for toddlers to help your child get the optimum amount of rest. If your child has slept well, they will usually wake up by themselves without the need for any intervention from you. This helps your toddler get off to a good start to the day with no bad moods or tantrums for you to deal with in the morning.
Toddler sleep tips
1. Wind down before bedtime and ensure a scheduled bedtime routine
You should try to ensure your child goes to bed at the same time every night; prior to this it's wise to help your child wind down. This could be by taking a warm bath or having a story and a warm milky drink. Electronics, such as games or tablets shouldn’t be used for at least an hour before wind down time starts. Watching television also stimulates your child’s brain and this should also be avoided if possible, prior to the bedtime routine starting.
2. Ensure their bedroom is safe and comfortable.
The best way to create a sleep friendly space for your child is choosing neutral, pastel colours with calming designs will help pacify your toddler. Our collection of comforting colours and patterns are designed to help bring a sense of calm and balance before a good night’s sleep.
Furthermore, ensure any distracting toys are stored away out of sight and if your child is frightened of the dark, provide a nightlight. Where possible have the room in the quietest area of the house, away from any rooms constantly in use after they've gone to bed.
3. Night-time Snacks
Helping your toddler establish healthy sleep habits can take time, patience, and a bit of trial and error—but the rewards are well worth it. A consistent bedtime routine, a calm and comfortable sleep environment, and a few thoughtful adjustments can make a world of difference. Whether it’s winding down with a story, creating the perfect sleep space with blackout blinds, or offering a light snack, each small step contributes to a restful night—for both your child and you. Sweet dreams!
